How are you doing with calorie counting? Caloric intake is one side of the equation, and the other side of the equation is caloric output. Put intake into perspective by keeping in mind how many calories certain activities are. Do you really want that third piece of pizza? At approximately 300 calories, is it worth walking 3 miles or biking 9? Do you really want that handful of chips late in the evening when you’d have to swim for an extra 20 minutes to burn those 150 calories? Is it two hours after dinner and you know you won’t be able to sleep later because of the gnawing in your belly? How about a 30-calorie carrot or a few stalks of celery that have half those calories? You can burn those calories taking out the trash (if your driveway is long enough). When you’re weighing in your head whether that next indulgence is worth it, take a minute to figure out how much effort you’ll need to undo your extra calories. You might not win that battle every time, but I bet you win it a little more now.
