Build a better salad. Don’t feel like cooking? Keep a few key ingredients in your house to put together a good salad. I’ve found that keeping carrots, onions, some sort of lettuce, and chicken (even canned at times!) allows me to make a great salad a few times a week whenever I don’t feel like cooking. The key is to keep a few key ingredients that you like on hand. You can use peppers, cucumbers, fruit, berries, nuts, or seeds. I find that at least 3 additions besides the lettuce make for enough taste and bulk to fulfill my taste buds and fill my stomach. Find what works for you. And here’s another shopping hint: keep in mind when shopping that some ingredients will keep longer than others. Romaine, carrots, and celery tend to keep for a while in the fridge. Onions keep well and can be cut once a week and stored in the fridge for later in the week. Seeds and nuts are a great source of protein that keeps for months. Good luck with your salad building.
