My Dream Float Therapy Experience
I finished my third float in the sensory deprivation tank. Every float has been better than the last. The sessions take on as many meanings as the number of people who float, but for me a float session is a calming, resetting, spiritual journey.
You’ve heard what floating can do. In addition to being great for relaxation, it soothing aching muscles, decreasing anxiety, and helping insomnia. Furthermore, floating is a wonderful tool for increasing focus, creativity, and athletic performance. Read more about the benefits here. But what will it do for you?
I don’t know what it will do for you exactly. But I do know what it does for me. It calms me. Maybe it’s the hour of womb-like suspension or maybe it’s the few milligrams of the thousand pounds of Epsom (magnesium) salts that gently absorb through my skin that has the restoring effect. I don’t care which it is. Maybe it’s both. Know what I care about? It works.
The Float Calms and Restores
The float calms me, and not only that, it quiets my mind and body. The first thirty minutes of my first float session was a little tough. My mind whirled. My to-do list grew. My internal clock kept ticking and reminding me of all the tasks left for the day and the week. After about thirty minutes of quiet and isolation, however, something magical happened. The list melted away. The clock stopped. My mind suspended itself, and I enjoyed blessed silence. I unwound, body and mind.
My second float was better than the first. I skipped the first thirty minutes of worrying about what I should be doing. Next, after a few minutes I was in the zone and saying, “Thank you, God.” And I heard back, “You’re welcome. Thanks for coming.” And the conversation continued for a few minutes until peace engulfed me and held me for the rest of that hour that seemed like a day.
The Best Yet
The third float was the best yet. The relaxation began before getting in the pod from the sheer anticipation. Again, I knew it was going to be good. I laid back in the arms of the universe and checked in with my angels to listen to my angel voicemail that is hard to hear in the din of everyday life. And then I downloaded some messages and laid back with my angel homies for the rest of that glorious day, I mean hour.
I can’t promise that you’ll have the same experience, but yours will be better because it will be yours. Carve out some time for yourself to drop into the silence. Maybe fall into the space that restores you. Talk to God, your angels, your gone great grandpa or no one. Simply exist. Be a human being instead of a human doing and watch the secrets of the universe unravel at your feet.
